Thanksgiving Turkish!

It's Thanksgiving Day here in Malaysia. It's an American holiday, so we didn't expect much celebration. When we saw in Expat magazine that the Malaysian American Club was hosting a Thanksgiving Day luncheon, we thought it would be a good way to mark the actual holiday. Ben went to a fair amount of trouble to get us signed up. When he called the Club to make reservations, he told them we would be bringing a toddler. The Club doesn't take credit cards, so he had to go to their office via train and walk several blocks with Eleanor to pay them cash. The cost was RM 110 / each ($58 / US for both of us). Incidentally, we can eat out for lunch and dinner for 2 weeks and not spend that much money.

We arrived to the lunch at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel today in our slacks and cotton shirts, Eleanor in the buggy. When the greeter asked me, "What company are you with?" I apologized and said that I must be at the wrong event. She did, however, find our name tags. Sensing that things weren't quite right, we pointed to Eleanor and the lady gave us a funny look. I finally spotted something that indicated that it was a CO-sponsored event American Club and the American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce. After quickly reviewing the agenda we decided to leave as it included several speakers and clearly stated "business attire." The nice greeter made a very small attempt at encouraging us to stay.

Seizing the opportunity to have a nice family lunch we went across the street to a nice Turkish restaurant. Turkish? Turkey? Close enough!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Turkish for Thanksgiving - works for me! It was probably more fun that the other stuffy event.
